The Sew Weekly Sewing Circle

A LBD of wool crepe based on a mid-50s dress that my Grandmother made for herself, and which I loved and wore until the early synthetic knit started to disintegrate. Time for a new one for me!

The inspiration for the dress was a pair of vintage marcasite dress clips that Mr D gave me for our 6th wedding anniversary.

That's a great dress and I do like the changes you made to accommodate the lovely marcasite clips. Can't wait to see the pattern also made up in prints.

Thank you :-)  I can't wait to see what the next few Sew Weekly challenges are.  Hopefully one with work for this dress in a print!

This is so exquisite! I went to your blog to read the whole story. What a way to remember your grandma!

The world needs more dress clips, and dresses to wear them on - great job!

Thank you Relynn!

Barbara, I do think of her when I wear the dress.  :-)

Trish, I totally agree!

I couldn't agree more, Trish! I've been thinking lately that I really need to start hunting some dress clips soon. I sadly lack any, and I feel the void in my life. lol

I love your dress! That decade is one of my favorites and your dress definitely reminds me of it.

Thank you!  I'm usually not a '50s girl (just don't have the bust/waist definition for it) but I'm starting to warm up to the decade.
