I'm so impressed that you lined the entire dress!

I'd say this is vintage modern in the way you have updated and fitted the dress!

Hi Cathe,

I do believe that lining makes a dress feels luxurious..but it requires more work..I just basted lining fabric to the main pieces and sewed them as one.  The more professional way is to sew the lining pieces and main pieces separately and attach the lining to the main piece later  so the lining skirt is separate? Hmm..I need to try a pattern that teaches that!

That is a super cute  dress, I bet she looks amazing on. I love the contrasting grey collar and cute buttons too.

Great work!!! Your creation looks wonderful on you and was very well done. Congrats on sewing with a vintage pattern.  I'm hooked with vintage patterns- love them!

I have made dresses with lining, doing it both ways- separate and basted on each piece. Lining our handmade clothes DOES INDEED make them feel well done and comfortable.  However, I also think that  some complicated patterns (some Vogue esp.) can loose their enjoyment if lining them causes unnecessary work and frustration-at least for me! I want to enjoy my sewing too! Does anyone out there agree?
