The Sew Weekly Sewing Circle

Hey Guys,

I wanted to let you guys know about the theme for the week February 28th since -- if you decide to do it -- will require some extra time for shipping. Colette Patterns is going to be our first sponsor! We are going to be sharing our Spring palettes and we will each be making a dress from the Colette Patterns line. CP was nice enough to create a 15% discount code for Sew Weekly readers: SWSPRING  The code is case sensitive and is good for 15% off your entire order excluding shipping.

I'm sure a number of you already have a Colette Pattern in your stash, but if you don't, this would be a great time to try them out. If you are unable to buy a pattern for some reason but can't resist participating, CP has this free bloomers pattern to download:

Wish I'd known about that  Charlotte, I've gone and ordered one online now from Colette - but you never know, it might get here, as they say shipping is 2-3 weeks and I've just had confirmation that it's been sent.  We'll see...  Also, did you make your dress with fabric from Croft Mill?  I thought I recognised it on the website today.  I was looking for 5 yards of something reasonable!  Anyway, I found something not too badly priced.  They're good aren't they.  I'm glad they're still going as they nearly folded at one point and I was really disappointed.  I've made lots of curtains with their stuff.

Yes, the fabric was from croftmill, it was £4 a metre so I thought that if I mucked it up I wouldn't be too upset ... they are very reasonable, a freecycle lady told me about them, I really like the descriptions and names of fabric, very amusing!

Sorry, should have mentioned the sewbox thing before, I didn't think of it.

Talking of curtains, I am making next week's dress out of curtains I bought at a jumble sale last year. I think the fabric might be a bit thick but I can't help that.

Hi Charlotte and Marguerite, glad I've come across your discussion this morning. I've been taking a week out although keeping an eye on the site . It's been in the back of my mind about the colette patterns and I thought I'd tackle it. I'm not going to order from the link now knowing it takes 2-3 weeks. Also looked at sewingbox and they are out of stock of a few things, and nothing on ebay. Think sewbox is best bet although there is raystitch can't tell you much about it though as my computer doesn't like this site!

PS must check out the croftmill site, on my list of many things to do!!

I'm feeling a bit sad as I've made the decission not to take part in next weeks challenge. I'm not able to get hold of a pattern that suits my ability. Also I have patterns and materials that I should use first, I'm feeling a little guity that I keep spending out just to keep up. I am enjoying the site but need as Mena said it's supposed to be fun, although there is a sense of missing out or letting the challenge down. Pressure now taken off myself, I'm feeling a bit better! We have all come to the challenge with Mena love a nd have been inpired so much, I personally want the site to blend with my own 'challenge' thats to make a waldrobe that suits my needs.  Good lock girls, I will still be watching your every move and ny next wed next week I'll be wishing I was joing in ha ha !

Don't feel pressured Charlotte! I think it's ok if you 'bend the rules' a little if you still want to take part but the themes doesn't seem quite right for you. And if you skip a week.. no-one here is going to judge you! The main goal is just to get inspired enough to get sewing!

My own sideline challenge is to only use patterns and fabric that I have and purchase as little as possible.  So I'm making the bloomers this week (not that I ever wear short things.. even to bed!) and I'm going to try and make a little pj top to match - just out of some very old printed cotton. Not part of the challenge, I know.. but I thought it would be a fun twist.

Great Idea Casey..sounds cute already..Cant wait to see the outfit.. Judy
Ha ha... not sure I'll be game to model this one!!

Don't be sad  Charlotte, do your own thing and upload it anyway - I'm sure we'd love to see it even if it isn't the week's theme!  For me although I am buying alot more sewing stuff in general I am trying to make the stuff I already have fit the theme. Next week I am lucky, I already have a pattern and a huge amount of curtain material that I will use.

I think Casey's idea is great though, to make the bloomers in a fun way, you could always do that, I don't think they need alot of material. (Find your inner Victorian housemaid!)

If you join in or not I think everyone will be supportive, I've had nothing but positive comments whatever I have made, no matter how  basic (even though everyone else's things are so professional and fabulous). I think there is room for everyone to be creative in their own way.

I'll be looking out for your input, very appreciated, and here's to your next project (on the theme or off piste, as you like!) xxx

Hi Charolette,

Don't be sad..It's ok to sit the week out.. I am sitting it out too. I had several projects I needed to

work on and time just didnt allow.. But, I am going to hop right back on next week..[I too, felt

guilty that I was not doing the challenge this week]

I too am trying to  make me a spring/summer wardrobe. so, sometimes the challenges might

not work for us... On these weeks...we will just have to sit it out [and be encouraged to do  a

garment we need.ha]

Either way, If you decide to join in ot not.. Just be happy and enjoying whatever sewing you come up with. and lets all have fun with it. Will look forward to your post either way.. Happy  Sewing, Judy

I agree with Casey - it is meant to be fun after all! I'm doing something really easy this week as I think I need a little breather from complicated things. I want to take part though, just to keep my hand in things.
I've looked at bloomers and it only has 3 tiny seams in it! That's all it is apart from a drawstring!
yep.. and I'm not even going to do the button holes and drawstring.. I'm going to put elastic top and bottom. (Despite that making them somewhat similar to my baby girls bloomers!) Drawstrings around my thighs would cut me like a ham! lol!
