The Sew Weekly Sewing Circle

Even though we're not sewing with a strictly defined theme this week, the stash busting theme does lend itself to some fun community participation opportunities: a stash busting game! We'll be tracking our progress this week at The Sewing Circle, so be sure to check out this thread.

So how does this all work? As a motivation to dive into that stash and get sewing, we're going to award points to our creations sewn THIS WEEK based on these guidelines:

  • 5 points per yard of fabric used
  • 10 points for fabric being vintage, thrifted or upcycled
  • 3 points for every pattern used that you've never sewn before
  • 10 points for using a pattern/fabric you've had for more than a year
  • 20 points for integrating a SCRAP (not a piece of fabric you cut) less than 1/2 yard into your garment

Don't forget to include photos!

At the end of the week, we'll total our points up and see who really tore through their sewing room. And of course, the Top Stash Buster gets a prize. It's all honor system, but I know you all are a trust-worthy crowd.

Ok, let's get sewing!

Very sweet, great idea! Good point scoring too ;0)
Great looking belt and I love the color too:)
A model very clever! I love the fabric and color! Perfect to give a different touch to any dress.
I'm really keen to make some more a as presents , they realy do make a simple dress or top extra special. xx
Loving the belt - the color is so striking!

Tthis is Butterick 7682 circa 1952 (resized by me in a very amateurish way) 3 points

Fabric bought on ebay a few months ago, vintage 10 points

Yards used 2.5 (it wasn't wide material), call it 12 points

Therefore it's a poor 25 points (although my interfacing was also vintage ... bonus point?)

This is stashbusting because I bought the fabric with no plan in mind and it has been sitting for a few months. The pattern I was given last week by a fabulous lady. More details here.

The photo is terrible because my hubbie doesn't get in until gone 9pm on a Thursday. That's my excuse anyway, I am not photogenic at the best of times.

I am calling this my "doesn't she scrub up well" blouse because it feels a bit like medical scrubs to me for some reason. It does up via a zip on the left seam under my arm.

This is my first ever blouse! I did an FBA but now I'm wondering if I overdid it because it's almost too big (or I am used to wearing off the rack clothes that pull against my larger than average assets...???).

Bring on next week's challenge!

Hi Charlotte,

I love your blouse.. the neckline is really pretty and I like the fabric too..

I hate being in pictures too.[try to hide when the camera comes around..yuk..].

But you look great... and the blouse looks great.Enjoy wearing.

I finished up my pants and top for this weeks challenge and just have to get hubbie

to take a picture  [and possiably ,just a picture of the garments by themselves.lol] Judy

Thanks Judy for your kind encouragement. I will look forward to seeing a picture of your outfit, last time I joined the challenge I just put a photo of the skirt but I thought I'd be brave this time! I usually hide too.... x

neck line is lovely.
The blouse is so pretty - the neckline is very flattering.  I think this is a great picture!
Ok. My dress ... I call it "heart of ice dress" and it is very appropriate for a date to be on next week.
It is taken from a Burda magazine, November 1994, so it's on my wish list since I bought the magazine in that year.
Then let it .. two yards of fabric used, 10 points.
Fabric in my stash takes about eight years, 10 points.
Burda magazine pattern, never used before, 3 points.
Patttern in my possession since 1994, 10 points.
So I get 33 points, but the important thing is that I have another dress in my closet thanks to forget the laziness Weekly Sew!

Nice!  I love the detail around the neck - is that lace?

Enjoy wearing it on your date!  :-)
