The Sew Weekly Sewing Circle

Well ladies, I don't know about you, but I've been following the outcomes of the A Common Thread Project and kinda wishing I could be a part of it, too!  The idea of getting something pretty in the mail from another crafty lady somewhere else in the world and then incorporating it into an outfit holds a lot of appeal.  :-)  Kind of like reinforcing that whole sewing community thing by making a garment that someone else contributed to.

So I've been thinking, and what I was thinking was - how about we do something similar via the Sewing Circle community?  What if those of us who were interested put our (virtual) hands up, and we then did a little out-of-the-hat draw and each of us sent some lace or pretty ribbon or nice buttons or similar to the person whose name we get given.  And then we can each make a garment incorporating what we receive in the mail from someone else in the circle!  Kind of like one big, happy, swapping circle of pretty sewing notions.

What do you think?  Would you be interested?  I'm happy to do the organising (i.e. collect names/addresses, do a random allocation and let everyone know who they're allocated to send something to) if people are keen.

Hi Kat, I'd like to be involved! I'll try and get you my details as soon as possible :)
I know we want to fit everything into an envelope, but for those who have got theirs ready to go, what type of quantity are you include 1 yard, 2 yard? Looking for a ball park amount here.
I'm just stuffing it full of stuff ... but like Judy, I'd be interested to know what size of envelope everyone is using.
I'm going to stuff mine to the gills, too! :)
Hope I get yours then :-))! (Probably won't now!)
Nope...I'm hankering to get it..hahaha

OK, so I have measured the envelope I used, it is a letter envelope, 4 inches by 8.5 inches. I have just got it ready, it's not sealed yet because I want to see who I get before I make my final decision as to what to include ;0)

I was not so bothered by yardage but I was trying to think about the recipient and what they would like....... I am trying to include a useable amount and make a nice package that someone would like to receive

Hope that's ok x

Or yours Charlotte! (cheeky aren't I)

Thanks Charolette.. so a regular mailing envelope.. I too want to stuff it full. and I agree ,try to put enough trimming to  be able to use on something..

This is so exciting..I cant wait to get my name.. I assume once we  get our name and mail the package, we still are not suppose  to let the persons name we got know.. They will only know, once they recieve the package??? is this correct?? [You know I STINK...when it comes to keeping secrets..hahaha..I will  probably bust..trying to keep it a secret.ha

Haha, yep, I think we should all try and keep it a secret about who we've sent our envelope to, until they receive it!  Then it'll be an even bigger surprise for us all - we won't know what we're getting, who it's from, or even where in the world it's coming from!  :-)

Isn't that exciting!!!!  I will keep my 'big mouth sealed" if it kills me.hahaha

I agree, but I'm with Judy, I will have to try really hard not to blurt!

I don't know what is more fun, making the envelope, wondering who you will get or waiting to see what arrives.... at the moment I am on tenterhooks wondering who I will send to, this is ace ;0)
