Hi Jenny,

Drafting patterns is something I would like to spend more time doing myself as well as getting rid of my fear of knits. Maybe after the wedding? Looks as if we are "newbies" together.

Your education sounds like it was a lot of fun and that you will have a lot to bring to this group.  This is a good place for inspiration and motivation.  I look forward to seeing what you are making.

Hi annie, what a great Santa present.  Hope you can jump right in and start making things you really like.

Hello everyone!  I finally joined the community after lurking around this website all last year and admiring the contributors' projects :)

I learned to sew from my Grandmother and Mom, and have actually been sewing longer than I can remember.  I love sewing so much that I decided to waste my money and get a degree in Theatrical Costume Design - I now design on a freelance basis, mostly for smaller theaters and schools.  I also have an Etsy shop I started about 2 years ago where I sell vintage-inspired handbags.  I live in the Chicago area in a vintage 1920s bungalow with my husband and rescue hound.  My attic storage and basement workshop are full to overflowing with fabric because I use the excuse of needing it for work!

Sewing for clients and my shop has left me no time to sew for myself or my husband, and we are both very tall people who have a hard time finding ready-made clothes to wear.  I was inspired by the Sew Weekly challenges and want to make more things for myself this year!  My hope is that if I have a place to share then I'll want to make more time for personal projects.

I also have started to blog about my projects as a costume designer, if you're interested!

Hi, my name is Kay and I've been sewing for over 40 yrs. now. I've been married to my husband for going on 41 and at times it feels like 90!  LOL  I absolutely  LOVE  to sew. If I'm stressed it calms me, if I have a headache.....which is often.....I can go to my sewingroom and lose myself in my sewing and soon forget I even had that nasty old headache.

We have 4 grandchildren, 3 girls and our special boy!  I call him that because he's our only boy. No more grandbabies! Both daughters are too high risk.   Plus 4 is a nice even number.  And with my memory hopefully I won't forget their names!

I heard about this site through...... Sewing with Nancy.  ( Nancy Zieman )  I watch her show faithfully every Saturday.  Along with sewing clothes I also enjoy quilting, gardening, reading and spending time with my 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren....... hubby is optional..... LOL   {He's also retired.}

Oh, this is one of my daughters  ( on left ) at a Woman's Outdoor Retreat we went to a couple of years ago.  It was learning all about being an outdoors woman.  We had a blast!

Hello, after lurking and stalking this site I finally decided to join :) I learned sewing mostly by myself so I guess I'm using some weird techniques while I'm sewing. :) Sewing is my biggest and hobby but I have (or had as I gave up on some of them) more -- knitting, crochetting, even silversmithing :)

Right now I'm only sewing for myself and trying really hard to combine my hobby and my studies (as I am still studying - at University of Warsaw) - sometimes it's so hard to be disciplined and learn instead of making another project!

I live in Warsaw in Poland. I'm a little intimidated by the fact that nearly everyone here is from english-speaking  countries and I'm the only one from Eastern (or Central? depending on how you put it) Europe (or am I not?). I hope my english won't scare anybody as it's far from perfect :)

Welcome Anna, your English is amazing!

Thanks you for my inclusion, ladies (and gents, if applicable)!  I am really excited to have found this forum.  I will try to not be too shy in the face of so much overwhelming talent.  WOW.

I am from the Midwestern United States, I love cats (and my guinea pigs), rock 'n' roll, vivid colors, and classic cuts.  The DIY punk ethos always appealed to me as a teen, and although I prefer a different aesthetic style now, I still think sourcing and human rights are important things to consider, so I do a good deal of thrifting and alterations.  Here to observe and learn!  :-)
