The Sew Weekly Sewing Circle

Some of us have started saying we'd like a UK meet up.... sooooo, who is interested? And where do you live? And are you willing to travel???????

I have just looked at the rail map of the uk, we could meet centrally somewhere, sometime this summer? We seem to have people from Edinburgh to Devon....

I'll start, I live in Lincolnshire, I can travel within reason (!), but I need some time to organise babysitting ;0) I would LOVE to meet some of the people I have met online and chat about sewing...

Who's in?

if you get a rail ticket that includes your underground travel it wont matter where we go and you can get on a nd buy it. I'm up for suggestions, but still ok with the V&A as it is just a lovely place.
good. so I will wait for us to go together to V&A and see the Yohji Yamamoto

Hiya. No the V&A is a fab Idea! Its my favorite museum and I use it constantly in my studies. The exhibitions are always great and the costume court is lovely if you have never been there. But I was just concerned Debi was saying about possibly going into the stores.

The V&A have lots of stuff not on show but doing that requires a lot of paperwork on their behalf and it is very difficult for one student to do let alone a group. I have applied to do it 6 months in advance and was still told I couldn't. They aren't very keen on that sort of thing compared with say Bath Costume Museum.

The museum itself loves groups. There is an Japanese Designers exhibition on at the moment that will cost around 7 quid each to get into too!

Thanks for the answer Stevie, that clears things up - it is the Japanese designers exhibition we are hoping to go to!

All systems go then!

I think there's a difference between the collections and the exhibition we're planning to go to. You can usually drop into the exhibition on the day, atleast I've always been able to (I'm not sure if that's luck or not) but I would recommend perhaps booking nearer the time as we will be going on a sat.

Is it wrong that I'm equally excited about the gift shop?

Hello Philippa, glad to see you here and out of lurking hibernation!

Thanks for the tip, what a shame you can't make the meet..... but maybe next time we could come to see your collection, that would be just great!

How hugely exciting! I just found out about this from the mailing list, and you can count me in for sure! 14th of May - let me put that on my calendar...

xx Charlotte

Fabulous! Glad you can make it - and super chuffed another Charlotte is on board....
For another time (really don't want to complicated things for this time) The Fashion and Textile Museum might be a good idea?
We can do it twice  a year and visit all those wonderful museums..

I think you're exactly right Steph!  The collections are moving to a new home! I had no idea you had to book so far in advance to see them--so good to know! But the exhibit we are going to will be fun!  And I'm with you--equally as excited about the giftshop!!

Now we'll just need to find a good photo-shoot location!  Should we take photos before the exhibit (before we get all wrinkly?) We could do photos on the front steps--the V&A looks like a fabulous building.  And maybe we can do some photos in the sculpture gallery? or inside on one of the grand staircases?  I'll bring my mini-tripod and we can try and lure some passerbys to take photos too :-)  What do you all think?

Oh and Mena agreed that the theme for the following week will be the Union Jack colors! YAY!!

Thanks Debi for getting our theme sorted! I am very excited now.... apparently you can take photos in the galleries, and there is more info

although they don't seem very keen on tripods.... I didn't fully understand the restrictions !

good idea to take them early, I am a clumsy sort of person and bound to get mucky as the day goes on ;0)
