Giraffe-dog-I love him already!

My name is Lettetia and I live in the beautiful state of Oregon.  I have been sewing since I was a young girl and have always made clothing for myself.  I think I was born in the wrong era, as I love the vintage look of the 20's to the 40's.  I joined Sew Weekly today in hopes to get more motivation to sew only my huge stash of fabric.   Living in a small town, I have no other sewing friends so I hope to make meet some like-minded sewers.

Hi everyone,

My name is Gabrielle, and I live in Sydney, Australia. I work as an analyst and have a son and a daughter (7 and 4) and an unpredictably cranky cat. Back in the dark ages of time when I was a uni student aspiring to dress like someone with truckloads of cash (and good taste ;-)...) I used to sew a lot of my clothes, but then I stopped until about 2 years ago.

I now sew late at night after the kids have gone to bed (hence my blog name upsewlate),  and I find it verycalming after a busy day.  I make my own clothes mostly from recent Vogue patterns, and occasionally from Japanese pattern books or vintage patterns (generally 80s-90s, 30s-40s). I want to sew some more complex vintage 30s / 40s outfits - but I don't think my sewing skills are up to the job yet.  When I sew clothes for my kids I usually use BurdaStyle magazine / Burda patterns or Japanese pattern books as these seem to fit pretty well so far. I do a little bit of crafty / home dec sewing but I don't find it as satisfying as making clothes.

This year I'm going to try to focus on making things that I or my kids or partner will wear and love, and I'm trying to be more conscious of my fabric purchases and use.   I am also hoping to meet more fellow sewers through this community!

Hii - I'm Kim and I'm obsessed with Pinterest!!

I'm Tj and I came across the Sew Weekly last year (through following Oona's blog) but I was neck deep in my PhD research so I decided I would join up once I submitted my thesis. So I submitted in Jan, 2012 (and then spent 3 weeks in bed catching up on TV/ film that I'd missed during the last 6 months!) and now I'm here ready to sew up a storm. I am interested in all sorts of design-(clothing, architectural, industrial) and illustration.

My blog is at http://theperfectnose.wordpress.com/

You guys are so inspiring-I've been quietly lurking here admiring your masterpieces for almost a year and now I'm here to participate!

How exciting =D

Hi, my name is Melissa, I am a Wellingtonian and I love to sew my own clothes :)

I just returned home after living in Perth, Western Australia for 6 years where I co-founded the Perth BSC Sewing Club. I made lots of sewing friends over there who I miss terribly so I am keen to make new friends here in Wellington and connect with more like-minded ladies online.

I used to hang out a lot on BurdaStyle as kaitui_kiwi but lately I've found it getting a bit too big and impersonal (I could go no...and on) so I'm hoping to get more involved in this amazing group that I've been hearing so much about on the blogs I read :) My own blog is the thecuriouskiwi and I hope to make lots more friends here xx

Hi! I'm new to this site but not quite new to sewing. My mom taught me to sew and helped me with any project I wanted to make. It wasn't until I turned 30 that I bought my first sewing machine and skyped with my mom when I needed help. I'm 34 now and have worked on many solo projects. :) I still call or txt when I'm doubting myself.

I blog at threedresses

My focus is to learn how to make any pattern fit my body. There's something therapeutic about doing pattern alterations. This year I'm focusing on tossable and wearable muslins. It's less stressful that way. I make a lot of mistakes.

Hi all,

My name is Detra from Northern California, Napa area.   I am back to sewing clothes after 30 years.  I grew up sewing with my grandmother and took the skill for granted, big mistake.   I usually make things for the home, curtains, pillows, lawn furniture covering, etc.  The clothes I find in the stores that I like are expensive and simple.  I use to make the skirts and dress I see so I am back to sewing.   I like vintage styles, lady like details and have some great patterns.  I look forward to reading the posts, getting tips and asking questions.  Thanks.

Hi all :-)

I bought The Colette Sewing Handbook and saw this website listed under 'Recommended Reading' and am LOVING it! Inspirational, interesting, informative (is that enough i's?).

I got back into sewing about 12 months ago and had forgotten how much I enjoy it. I've also forgotten a few other things like installing zippers without any grief and attaching collars...

I am amazed when I see time taken to complete an outfit '4hrs', you'll be lucky if anything I make is less than a week. I'm sure though the more I sew, the better/faster I'll get.

Looking forward to learning lots of new tips and tricks and seeing all the gorgeous creations made by you all.

Cheers

Josie

Hi Im Bridget, I have been in the states for just over 6 months from New Zealand and have finally bought a sewing machine over here.  I am super excited to get sewing again as I have missed being able to make my own clothes and random bits and bobs, and I have a pile of mending to do as well!  I have enjoyed looking round this website and look forward to joining in some of the weekly challenges :)

Hi my name is Tiny.  I am a stay at home mom with 8 kids.  I home-school my kids, 6 are still being home-schooled while the older 2 have graduated.

I was born and raised in NYC but I currently live in NJ.  Just a train ride way from NYC.

My mother taught me how to sew and crochet when I was young.  I love to sew, its what I use to "get away".

I have a blog where I talk about sewing, school and what ever else comes to mind.  I also have a Pinterest.

I am so happy I found this place.  I love to talk about sewing just as much as I love to sew.

Hi, My name is Kelly.

I just started learning to sew, and I've really been enjoying it! I actually started my own blog to document my journey in learning to sew as I go along: http://sewalluring.com/. I'm excited about getting to know other people interested in sewing, so I'm really glad I found Sew Weekly!
