The Sew Weekly Sewing Circle

Some of us have started saying we'd like a UK meet up.... sooooo, who is interested? And where do you live? And are you willing to travel???????

I have just looked at the rail map of the uk, we could meet centrally somewhere, sometime this summer? We seem to have people from Edinburgh to Devon....

I'll start, I live in Lincolnshire, I can travel within reason (!), but I need some time to organise babysitting ;0) I would LOVE to meet some of the people I have met online and chat about sewing...

Who's in?

Hiya All. I just joined! I would love to do this meet up too as I'm in Brighton. London is a 40 min journey to Waterloo!

So I just want to clarify as 12 pages of messages is hard to keep up with.

We all want the 14th of may (Saturday) and want to meet at the V&A for 11.30 wearing something blue? or red white and blue?

Handmade obv :)

Hello Stevie

I admit it is all getting quite confusing on this thread, in summary:

We will meet at the V and A at 11:30 on 14th May.

We will try to make something in the theme of red, white and blue to wear. Debi is asking Mena on our behalf if we can set this as the theme for the week following our meeting. Then we can use the photos from our meet for that theme. Plus it will be great fun!

If you don't want to make something in all three colours of red, white and blue the suggestion is you make something in one or two of the colours and accessorise to meet the theme.

Debi had an extra really good suggestion: if you really want to push the boat out the V and A has made a pattern for a Horrockses dress. You can download it here:

 http://www.vam.ac.uk/vastatic/microsites/1486_couture/create.php

Some of are going to try to make that dress in the red, white and blue theme colours!

Then we are going to visit an exhibition suggested by Rachel at the V and A followed by some fabric shopping. We are also bringing patterns with us for a pattern swap.

We will go our own ways late in the afternoon (I think!)

If I have got anything wrong I'm sure someone else will let us know! I think that's right....

Does that make sense? I'm really happy you can join us! If you have any other suggestions please feel free to say.

Hi all....I just read that the V&A textiles collection has been packed up for a move to another site: http://www.vam.ac.uk/futureplan/projects/Textile%20Study%20Centre/i...

So we'll be able to see the exhibit we are going to but I'm not sure if we will be able to access their extensive fashion history collections!  Ah well...I'm personally looking forward to the gift shop! hehehehehe

we should defitinaly reserve some time for the gift shop....

Debi, As a fashion and dress history student, I know oh so well that the V&A appointment system for the collections is nigh on impossible to get into without booking at least 6 months in advance. They are super busy and very rarely allow big groups of people in, Although I would love to do it as much as you lot!

The gift shop is excellent though! And I printed that horruckses dress when the exhibition was on but I think i've lost it already!

Sounds like a brilliant plan though!

Hello Stevie

I don't think we will be a very big group, but are you saying that we should rethink the V and A thing? If so do you have another suggestion? I hardly know London so I am happy to do whatever everyone else wants....

Thanks for any input you can give! Cx

if in this visit we dont have time to see the japansese designer, I can go another day but I just need to know asap as Im going to london next week and I would do it them...

I'd like to go to the exhibition as planned, if it is ok to do that......! But I'm with you Rachel, I need to know if we are doing something different because I am buying rail tickets.

So, I'm still in for the V and A, what do the others think?
