The Sew Weekly Sewing Circle

This is the dress I'll be wearing at my brother in law's wedding! It has given me grief (see http://circle.sewweekly.com/forum/topics/a-beginner-s-mistake-help-needed) but it's ok now.
I used the pattern I won on Forrest's giveaway: a 1965 Simplicity wedding/occasion dress. I'm going to pair it with the Vogue 8640 jacket in the same fabric. I love this peacock blue/green colour! The wedding party will be wearing plum (the bride's dress is plum!) which I think will go together nicely.

Apologies for the mess in the backgroung! You're looking at my workspace: the kitchen.

Very beautiful. Please, please post a picture of you in your dress! I think this is amazing! You will be stunning at the wedding and I agree this color will look lovely with plum.

That looks good, ditto Cathe for a picture of you in your dress.  PS do the front darts need a little more pressing?  I would suggest from the inside, and maybe a (damp?) cloth, depending on the fibre/fabric type.

Yes to both: I'll have my photo taken once I've made the jacket and the darts have since been pressed again. I was just a bit too eager to show the bride so I quickly took a photo with my phone. I'll make sure I get some prettier ones done in a nicer setting :).

I work in my kitchen to...and on the living room floor! I also have a swifter sweeper present while I am sewing ; ). Anyway, the color of your dress is beautiful, this isn't the dress that you were soliciting advice on is it? It looks great, what did you end up doing to fix the issues?

It is! I used the facings, sewn them about 1cm away from the 1st seam (more detailed explaination here) It is much better now. I'm still not 100% happy with the way the fabric is behaving with the lining but their are minor details like tiny creases that no one else will notice.

I think you'll be giving the bridal party a run for their money in this dress - You've done a beautiful job. Looking forward to a proper pic with full war paint and accessories.

This is such a lovely, jewel-colored dress -- perfect for a winter wedding! Can't wait to see all the finished pictures with the jacket!

My mum's advice when I first started making clothes was 'Keep Moving - and nobody will notice' - for the tiny creases that you know about, but others don't unless you mention them!  30 years on I am still using that line :))
