The Sew Weekly Sewing Circle

Here I go.

I just cut out my first shirt pattern- Colette Pattern's Sorbetto. A few people recommended this as a starter project. I pinned it up to my dress form and it kinda looks like a shirt. Now, I need to convince myself that I can sew it. Frightening.

Princess Catherine's Wedding Dress on Display!

I'm not sure how many of you have heard the news, but Princess Catherine's beautiful wedding dress in now on display at Buckingham Palace.  In an unprecedented act, the costume curator has permitted the gown to be viewed without any glass between the tourists and the dress itself!  I'm sure there will be limits on how close visitors can actually get to the royal dress, but it is still an absolutely wonderful idea!  Also on display are the earrings, wedding shoes, tiara, and wedding cake…

Hello Sew Weekly!

I am brand new to the world of sewing and have great expectations and dreams of being able to make all of my own clothing. Regrettably, I am having a very hard time getting the hang of it. Can anyone recommend any starter projects? I have a bunch of dress patterns from the 1950's that I can't wait to make, but I don't want to ruin them until I feel comfortable. Any suggestions would be amazing. Thanks!

Fabric lust

Whenever I'm buying the $12 a yard fabric, I'm telling myself... well at least it's not the $30 a yard fabric. Know what I mean?

Sunshine-sewn Sorbetto

Over the holiday weekend, I wanted to spend some quality time with my family, be outdoors, and still get some sewing done. A snappy Sorbetto, whipped up on the patio with Mom as the official bias cutter and all-around sewing companion was the best solution!

Read more on my blog, including a handy tip for stitching on the bias binding :)
