Help with Pattern Layout

Hi all

I am in the process of making a summer dress out of some gorgeous African embroidered cotton. The embroidery is very large and I am having trouble figuring out how to lay out the bodice pattern. I don't want to have a large flower on each boob.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated :)

So I have posted some photos- The first is of the bodice pattern pieces (side bodice and bodice front. I have altered it to be a surplice bodice.

Red, White & Blue

It must be in the air, but I whipped this skirt up over the weekend in honor of the Ginger Sewalong going on over at my blog. Is anything quite so classic as red, white and blue? This Ginger Skirt - one of the latest from the Colette Patterns line up - was made from a thrifted vintage fabric. It's a…

A Night Out With Churchill

My sister and I recently had a jolly evening at the Churchill War Rooms, as part of the museum late nights event. It was the perfect occasion for the first outing of my newly completed red jumper. It's a 1960's pattern, but I thought it still went well with my nautical outfit, and I've never worried about mixing eras.

TV character challenge

Between the school holidays here, Easter, two rounds of out of town guests, other commitments and my full-time day job, I have gotten really behind on the challenges. But the TV one came up as I was working on making something from my first pattern ever - Simplicity 2599. My mom helped me and it was great! We had lots of fun, I'm pleased with the final results and the top looks - I like to think - like something Ellen Parsons on Damages would wear. (Even if I am twice her size, LOL.)

Well I did love The Five Chinese Brothers, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and anything Suess not to mention Where the Wild Things Are but really couldn't find any sewing inspiration from any of my favs. But as a BIG kid this Little Golden Book 'I Can Fly' is one of my favourites, the illustrations are by the… Continue

Hello Sewing Weekly Circle,

visitors, who'd have'em.

I got the huff last night.

I invited my sister over for tea last night as she came interstate for a wedding (not THE wedding - a much better one - our cousin's) and we don't see each other that often.

We got some takeaway for tea as I had had to work late and didn't have time to cook. After we ate, she then proceeded to plonk herself in front of my telly and watch some crap show.

So I went off to my sewing room and worked on this week's…
