I am wearing my white and blue nautical cardigan (and a skirt I made for UFO week 1) in the middle of Lincolnshire but this man is no landlubber, it's famous sailor Matthew Flinders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Flinders) who, amongst other things, was the first person to use the name Australia for the landmass we know as Australia today. He was born in the next village to mine in 1774. I like his hat very much. Plus, at his feet he has his beloved ship's cat, Trim. What a man!
As I have been ill this week and found it hard to do anything, let alone sew, being near my intrepid southern hemisphere sailor has made me think of a lovely Australian sewist who has been under the weather too recently - Amanda, I am still thinking of you xx hope to see you back on the good ship sewweekly soon
