This is a super thrifty pinup dress. The bodice is made from a remnant lined with scrap drill (for added stability) and the skirt is made up of two thrifted skirts – a tiered one for the outer and a flimsy flared gore skirt for the lining.
The bodice pattern is Style 1086 from 1975 – it’s cut on the bias which I think is pretty nifty. Great for a snug fit but still comfy.
I thought the thrifted skirts would make this a very fast make… but…I discovered that the spotted one had already had a lot of love in it’s previous life. I needed to take in and restitch every seam. Ugh. Then I had to unpick and remove 2 gores from my lining skirt to make it the right size. That said, it was still pretty fab to make a full skirted dress with lining and not have to do any hemming!!

rockin' the red lippy - fabulous
Love the pose! Isn't it fun to find great items at the thrift and remake them?
This is just beautiful! Love the reuse of two old skirts...I loathe hemming too!
Fab dress - love the dots. Have just found 2 metres of large white polka dots on navy myself for £3 - I think it'll become a skirt like yours!
Great photo and dress, I really like you bow
Big win!
