I stepped outside of my usual 'shape' this week and while I was feeling like a green sack of irish potatoes at first,..it's starting to grow on me. The fabric & button is from my inherited stash and the pattern is my mum's from 1980. Simplicity 9371. She absolutely loved this dress back then... but then she was very tall and willowy! I had to add 5cm into the waist and 10cm into the hip!.. and the bust is actually a little big.. drat.. should have tried it on before the topstitching and I could have just run it in! I left out the pockets & there wasn't a belt pattern included, so I just used the very thin scrap I had leftover to make a tie belt with curved ends. The fabric is a bit sheer, so it's lined in navy cotton voille. When I realised that I wasn't going to be able to understitch the neck & armholes very well I decided to add a self facing as well to avoid any navy peeking out.
