Nothing brightens up a morning like a giant mustache :-D

Great costume, now you need to meet Adey in her monster lip dress...

Thank you ladies!

Jen, I took a large piece of cardboard and drew what looked to be a mustache on it and went from there. I used it as a template/pattern for the faux fur as well as to keep the 'stache rigid and together. I made the costume much like a skirt, there is a zipper in the back and you  can just step into it. I also cut out two triangles of felt  and attached to the top and then stuffed it with newspaper to make the mustache a little more three dimensional. Of course, the suspenders were necessary, I don't think anyone would be able to keep that huge thing up on it's own. It was definitely a hit and I'm glad that I chose this for my Halloween costume this year. :)

Hi, I don't know if you'll see this post because its such an old photo, but I was looking for a Halloween costume and saw this and was wondering if u could go into more detail about how you made it, for example, did u keep the cardboard with the costume and put the fur on top of it by sewing or did u just get rid of the cardboard after the design was cut out?!? I really need to get started on my Halloween costume and thought this was an AMAZING IDEA!!! Please help me whenever you can!! Thanks :)

Hi Tia! Thanks for the message. I haven't had the time that I used to have to sew anymore, so I haven't been on here in a very long while. So I apologize for the delayed response. I will be happy to answer your questions. I did use the cardboard as part of the costume. I just put it in the front of the mustache and stuffed newspapers in behind it to keep it secured. It was a really easy costume to make and I actually made one for my friend as well. Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Okay, I'm kind of confused, so I'm going to type this step by step and see if I'm doing it right. Step 1: cut out mustache out of giant piece of cardboard. (by the way where did you get a piece of cardboard big enough?!?) step 2: sew fabric to cardboard. Step 3: sew both mustaches together leaving space for newspaper, then stuff with newspaper... I wasn't sure how you did the zipper, and how long was ur mustache? Thanks, Tia

Hi Tia!

I did not sew the cardboard into the costume. I inserted it in against the front fabric to give the whole mustache rigidity. I wouldn't put any cardboard in the back of the mustache as it will make it even more difficult for you to move around. I think my dad just had the cardboard laying around from a new appliance that he had just bought. If you know someone that has bought a new wide screen TV, I'm sure you could take the box of off their hands!

I actually did not sew the two pieces directly together. There are wedges of brown felt that I used to make the mustache fit around my not so two-dimensional waist.

Lastly, the zipper was inserted in the back as if the costume were a skirt.

I will try to pull it out and take some pictures for you. This costume shouldn't take you more than 2 hours to make if you know how to sew, it was super easy!

Thank you!

Marcy

Okay, thanks!! So I just put the front piece of cardboard In it? And do I sew the bottom together, or what do I do with that?
