Nothing brightens up a morning like a giant mustache :-D
Great costume, now you need to meet Adey in her monster lip dress...
Thank you ladies!
Jen, I took a large piece of cardboard and drew what looked to be a mustache on it and went from there. I used it as a template/pattern for the faux fur as well as to keep the 'stache rigid and together. I made the costume much like a skirt, there is a zipper in the back and you can just step into it. I also cut out two triangles of felt and attached to the top and then stuffed it with newspaper to make the mustache a little more three dimensional. Of course, the suspenders were necessary, I don't think anyone would be able to keep that huge thing up on it's own. It was definitely a hit and I'm glad that I chose this for my Halloween costume this year. :)
Hi Tia! Thanks for the message. I haven't had the time that I used to have to sew anymore, so I haven't been on here in a very long while. So I apologize for the delayed response. I will be happy to answer your questions. I did use the cardboard as part of the costume. I just put it in the front of the mustache and stuffed newspapers in behind it to keep it secured. It was a really easy costume to make and I actually made one for my friend as well. Please let me know if you have any other questions!
Hi Tia!
I did not sew the cardboard into the costume. I inserted it in against the front fabric to give the whole mustache rigidity. I wouldn't put any cardboard in the back of the mustache as it will make it even more difficult for you to move around. I think my dad just had the cardboard laying around from a new appliance that he had just bought. If you know someone that has bought a new wide screen TV, I'm sure you could take the box of off their hands!
I actually did not sew the two pieces directly together. There are wedges of brown felt that I used to make the mustache fit around my not so two-dimensional waist.
Lastly, the zipper was inserted in the back as if the costume were a skirt.
I will try to pull it out and take some pictures for you. This costume shouldn't take you more than 2 hours to make if you know how to sew, it was super easy!
Thank you!
Marcy
