Inspired by Debi's 'Everybody Loves Parfait dress' http://www.sewweekly.com/2011/02/the-everybody-loves-parfait-dress-debi-fry.html
I have heaps & heaps of inherited corduroy.. so back in Feb when I saw Debi's purple parfait it actually inspired me to order the pattern. Her's was such a nice jewel tone purple and I was keen to use my jewel toned teal/green. While Debi's used a light cord, mine is quite heavy - my initial description was 'velvety' .. but as I was sewing this up I did start to think it was a bit 'chenille' like. Oh no!! I'm going to be a walking bedspread. I forced myself to continue despite the following thoughts - some students will pick me up and take me back to their dorm thinking I'm a 70's couch left out for grabs.. or.. people will think I've skinned a muppet! As I was fitting this my husband and his work colleague turned up.. fab timing... and the colleague said - 'hmm velour', which certainly didn't help ease my fears. I added the gold buttons (also from inherited stash.. which was met with 'you look very Irish'. Oh dear.. what have I done... not sure I'll be brave enough to venture out in this one now!! (side note - Debi.. there are thistles on my buttons just for you!)
Couple of things I did differently - Since my fabric was so heavy I left off the pockets. I also left out the midriff facing. I wanted to reduce bulk for getting that zipper in! I used a matching quilting cotton for the bodice & strap facings again to limit bulk. I interfaced the bodice facing, but only put interfacing in the straps where the buttons and buttonholes would be for reinforcement.
The bust is very roomy. I did use the sz. 2 bodice front and all other pieces are sz. 6. They fit together fine because the only joining seam is gathered to fit anyway.
So.. all that said. Do I look like a muppet?! promise I won't cry... much.

love the cord! I was thinking about this kind of dress for layering in winter! I love this combination with the shirt! We used to call these Pinafores when I was at school. I think they definitely need re-visiting

It's very luxurious looking and I bet it's nice and warm, not muppet like at all (I wouldn't have thought of muppets at all).

It's beautiful, the color is so rich with the gold buttons! It's nice to see it more winter than summer!
