I have to admit I am a mixture in equal measures of COMMUNITY-MINDED, COMPLETELY INCOMPLETE and FABRIC FIEND.

It's just over a yard - barely. So 10 metres if 10.9 yards. (Why oh why do we have two measurements that are so close and yet so different?!! Argh!)

All right so the consensus is roughly 3.5-4 yards…I think you all are enablers! Lovable fabric fiend enablers!

Okay so if I get this right 1m is just shy of a yard…makes my head hurt but it does confirm Kat, that you are very serious about your fabric purchases!

This is such a big question.. how much fabric????????? I normally will buy 4 yds ,if I think it will end up a dress..If the fabric is really expensive and I just can't buy that much.I will do 2 yds , and go for a skirt or maybe a blouse? REALLY .....if at all possiable ...like to go with 3 1/2 to 4 yds..

I've been known to buy 10 metres if something's cute enough, "just in case". My standard is 5 metres for woven fabrics (just in case I feel like making a full-skirted 1950's style dress) or 2 metres for knit fabrics (just in case I feel like making more than one thing!).

I'm definitely a Michelangelo-ite! The amount of times sentences begin with 'how hard can it be.......' HA! I always have grand ideas and grossly underestimate the amount of time things would take to finish!! Before the Sew Weekly this would have dovetailed with the 'completely incomplete' personality but since sew weekly it leads to 'Fast & Furious'.

I'm a fabric fiend... but it is spread across the fabric and yarn stores.

My husband can be an enabler though- the other day I went into Joann's for some belting (they were out) and came out with 4 yards of a beautiful fabric. 4 yards so I would have enough to make a vintage dress if I wanted LOL

Oh aren't we all in the same camp! I dip my toe in so many of these descriptions but I truly land in Fabric Fiend. And just this morning I was thinking I needed fabric…really, really??? I'm addicted, how could I possibly need fabric, I'm growing fabric mountains! Okay Kat you might win this one but I'm closing in on you. And Sarah, you are right, perhaps focusing on patterns is a better way of going.

My burning question is, how much yardage do you buy when you aren't sure…

My burning question is, how much yardage do you buy when you aren't sure what the end use will be. I use to think 1 yard but have reconsidered, not enough and moved it up to 2 yards…or should it be???
I say, Well rounded"..
