Shirtdress closure?

Ladies and gentlemen of the Sew Weekly,

 

If you were putting together a shirtdress like the one at center here:

what kind of closures would you use?  The buttons open the dress to the waist, but you'd still need a side zip for the skirt portion, correct?  Should I just disregard the buttons and install the same kind of side zip I'd use for a dress with a closed bodice?

Yes, put in a full length side zipper (underarm to hip), since the button front doesn't continue below the waistline.  In this design the front buttons are really decorative.
