The Sew Weekly Sewing Circle

Hey there lovely ladies!

A while back, a group of us took part in a world-travelling lace and notions swap, and had lots of fun bundling up goodies and sending them as a surprise to one of the other Sew Weekly sewing circle ladies.  After the swap wrapped up, the idea was floated that we do something similar - this time with patterns!  It feels like enough time has passed now, so....  who's up for another mystery swap?

The idea for this one is:

 - Everyone who takes part will send a pattern to their swap partner.  New or vintage - it's up to you.

 - If you're keen to take part, email me your address and your measurements (bust, hip, waist) so I can pass these on to your swap partner (after all, they need to know what size pattern to hunt out for you, don't they?!)

 - I'll take sign-ups for the swap until next Sunday (2 October)

 - I'll then put all the names into a magic hat (aka a spreadsheet and's number generator) and email you the name, address, measurements and Sew Weekly name for the person you're sending something to

 - After that, we'll all have 2 weeks to find a pattern we think our swap partner would like and get it in the mail to them

 - Once we all receive our swap pattern, we'll post it up on here (use the tag 'patternswap') so we can see what we all got!

 - And then your challenge is to use that pattern - either as a separate challenge, or as part of a Sew Weekly challenge, whatever works for you.  Then post the picture of your creation up on here, using the tag 'patternswap' again so we can all see them.

What do you think?  Anyone keen?

Count me in too!

Yay, so many people signing up!  This is going to be so much fun, I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with to send to each other, and what we all make with the patterns!  :-)

(Also, don't forget to send me your measurements and address before the end of Sunday 2 October, so I can send them to the person who is going to send you a pattern.)

OK, just sent mine over!
I'm a bit of a dummy. Do I sent the message via here or email or something else my poor brain isn't coming up with at the moment? lol
Hi Samantha, I've just sent you a friend request so you can email me via this site. :-)
well I've sent my measurements over and it's offical I'm getting bigger!
I'm in too!  Whew, forgot to reply before this and just made it in time. Vicki_muise [at] yahoo [dot] ca.  34/30/40.
Just made it - it's gone midnight  in NZ - but I doubt if Kat is up compiling a spreadsheet at this hour

It is still 2 October here ( just) and I hope I got the information through to Kat ok.

Since patterns are drawn up for B cups, if you get your pattern according to your chest measurement, which is taken under the arms and above the bosoms, then it is easier to adjust to fit when you are larger than a B cup, (which I am), because the back width is more accurate to your body size.

I find the only way I ever get a good result is to buy according to my upper bust measurement and then adjust elsewhere. I can decrease the waist, expand the hips, and/or do a FBA where needed but it's difficult to fix the rest, especially in a way that doesn't make me look like the frump monster is eating my face.

Could it be that what you are calling your 'upper bust' measurement is what I am refering to as a 'chest' measurement?

Well what ever you call it, it helps to get a better fit from bought patterns, than by just going by the full bust measure.

Yes, that's exactly it. LOL I apologize for being unclear but I was agreeing with you. My sewing projects used to make me cry until I discovered that little tidbit.
