I was in the woods when the first season aired. I don't have cable either, but me and several of my girlfriends will all hang out and watch (they sew too). I thought this first challenge was hysterical. I decided to watch it on streaming video last night and my husband and son got sucked in as well. There's going to be LOTS OF DRAMA this season.
It killed me when the blonde girl said "Are you speaking foreign?" in a southern accent. Oh. My. God. *headdesk*
Oh, I'm on vacation, so I haven't been checking out the old Sew Weekly like I usually do, but I did download the first episode already (and the Tim Gunn Road to the Runway special before it aired). I like Bert's work too, and yes, I think Anya must be fakin' it. No way you can make a garment that Tim Gunn admires without a lot of training and experience.....
I'm also following the Australian PR that has been running for 4 weeks now. I'm a bit of an addict. We had two seasons of PR Canada, but no word if it is going to continue.
I agree--the girl who claims she has been sewing only 4 months must be trying to pull a fast one. Someone who has been sewing such a short time may be able to put together the outfit she did, but not under that time crunch.
I like Bert too. He's modest, experienced and clearly trying to up his game. Perhaps I'm just cynical, but I'm just waiting for some bit of age-ism to show up and work against him. *sigh*
I agree with Cathe and Amy Stanton - Burt has really charmed me. He obviously has some major design chops and experience. As for the girl who's been sewing for 4 months... maybe if it were 4 months of 60 hours a week just sewing. Who knows? Maybe she doesn't need to work and has the time.
I've watched a lot of Project Runway in my day, and I have to say - Lifetime has really shifted the focus to highlight the behind the scenes drama between the contenstants. The episodes in Season 8 were close to 15 minutes longer than the episodes in Season 7 - and all of that time was devoted to drama. I'm not saying its a good thing or a bad thing - I just took notice and wonder if it will be similar this season.
I find it sad that the network feels the internal drama will garnish more ratings than what this show use to be. I'm sure the decision have Gretchen win over Mondo had to do with the buzz factor. If Mondo won that would be a happy ending and no further discussion but with Gretchen people are still upset talking. But I'm still watching :)
Here we go, episode 2…more to come!
